Given our passion about fashion, today we present you with an article on oriental influences in what women wear. We did find a lot of oriental influences in fashion when it was fashion specifically coming from the Middle East and we also found very famous international designers and fashion houses that were influenced by the Orient. For us, an oriental influence can be anything from a piece of oriental pattern or Arabic lettering to a full oriental outfit such as a Abaya for example. Below are amazing examples of these influences for your enjoyment!
Did international designers ever think of the orient as a source of influence? Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent have definitely designed oriental. Chanel for example has designed dresses with Arabic calligraphy as a main design element as shown in the image below. This is from Chanel's collection in Spring 1993. نكتب لكم اليوم عن التأثيرات الشرقية في عالم الموضة. ونصدر هذا المقال بسبب حبنا وشغفنا لعالم الموضة والتصميم الشرقي. فقد وجدنا ثأثيراً شرقياً في موضة المصممين الشرق اوسطيين وايضاً في موضة المصممين العالميين. والتأثير الشرقي يمكن ان يكون قطعة نمط تصميمي شرقي او خط عربي او حتى تصميمٍ شرقيٍ متكاملٍ كعباية مثلاً. ونكتب لكم هنا عن امثلة عن هذه التصاميم لتسليتكم.
فهل فكر يوماً المصممون العالميون بالشرق عند ابتكار تصاميمهم؟ ان الايجابة على هذا السؤال هي: بالطبع نعم. فان "شانيل" وايف سان لوران" قد صمما ازياءً تذكر يالشرق. فقد صممت شانيل فساتين تتضمن الخط العربي كجزءٍ اساسيٍّ من الفكرة الابداعية والتصميمية كما ترون في الصورة ادناه. ان هذه الصورة استعملت باذنٍ من مدونة "بوليغلوت".
Yves Saint Laurent for example was very fond of Morocco, which led him to design oriental. It would be funny if people decided to wear a fez or a "tarboush" in public these days but this is exactly what the house of Saint Laurent came up with. Yves Saint Laurent even designed draped dresses that are based on the fabric flow principle of the Abaya and has decorated his dresses gold accessories. Gold tends to mesh very well with Oriental style and traditions as well. These images are from Swide magazine.
اما “ايف سان لوران” فقد كان مولعاً بالمغرب العربي وقد صمم مع نزعةٍ شرقية. ولعل ارتداء النساء للطربوش ليس فعلاً من نزعات موضة هذه الايام, لكن هذا ما ابتكره ايف سان لوران. وقد صمم ايضاً فساتين ذات قماشٍ هادلٍ لعلها مستوحاة من مبدء العباية وهي مزينة بالاكسسوارات الذهبية. وان اللون الذهبي والمجوهرات هي فعلاً من العادات الشرقية. ان مصدر هذه الصور هي مجلة” سوايد”
Certainly powerful influences when coming from such internationally renowned designers, although the dresses above are slightly dated. And old is never a good idea in fashion. Let us move to more modern times where we found exquisite pieces as well. In an article on Al Arabiya News, Hadia Sinno demonstrates that Arabic calligraphy in fashion today is getting more and more recognized internationally through the work of Arab designers. She gives the example of a necklace designed by Azza Fahmi for Matthew Williamson. Indeed, oriental does deserve both local and international attention for its beauty, gorgeousness and curves.
Then, what are other amazing examples of oriental design in fashion? Fashion changes all the time. So let us look at creations from today.
One of our favorite jewelry brands is Bil Arabi designed by Nadine Kanso. There is nothing better than oriental curvy calligraphy to take the shape of a ring or even other forms of jewelry. Curvy is feminine and so is jewelry with oriental inspiration. On beautiful earnings, she inserts subtle Arabic letters that flow harmoniously into the jewelry piece. And she also uses curvy Arabic letters to wrap women’s fingers into letters. She has also designed a gold and diamond bangle that was sold at Christie's. ولعل هذه التأثيرات بعاية الاهمية عندما تصدر من مصممي الازياء العالميين حتى لو كانت هذه التصاميم قديمة بعض الشيء. فلننتقل الى ايامنا هذه حيث وجدنا تصاميمٍ رائعة ايضاً. وتقول هادية سنّو في مقالٍ على اخبار العربية ان التأثيرات الشرقية في عالم الموضة اصبحت تتميز في العالم من خلال عمل المصممون العرب. وهي تعطي مثل عن عقد صممته عزَة فهمي لماثيو ويليامسون. فان التأثير الشرقي برأينا يستحق جلب الانظار محلياً وعالمياً بسبب جماله وروعته.وما هي امثلة اخرى عن التصميم الشرقي في عالم الموضة؟
ان من مصممي المجوهرات المفضلين لدينا هي نادين قانصو ومجوهرات "بل عربي". فلاشيء اجمل من الخط العربي الدائري والمتمايل ليأخذ شكل خاتم او انواع اخرى من المجوهرات. فالاشكال الدائرية هي اشكالٍ انثاوية وان المجوهرات التي تتضمن تصميمٍ الشرقيًّ هي انثوية كذلك. فعلى اقراطٍ رائعة, تُدخل نادين الاحرف العربية بشكلٍ متناغمٍ ومتناسقٍ . وتستعمل ايضاً الاحرف العربية الدائرية التي تلف اصابع النساء بشكلٍ جميلٍ جداً. وهذه من اجمل قطع المجوهرات التي رأيناها في حياتنا. ان الصور ادناه قدمتها لنا نادين وهي من صفحتها على فيسبوك.

Walking around Dubai Mall, we also discovered Maysha Collection which presents pieces with oriental inspiration. While fashion is not the only thing Maysha Collection designs, all of their items are inspired by the Orient. Galabiya with neon color? It is beautiful! Beautiful attractive abayas, caftans and oriental inspiration pieces. She uses colors and distinctive patterns.
